Gracie
Hi Rebecca, It's been two weeks since I came to live with my new family. I am doing good and showing more of my personality everyday. My new family would like to thank Dogworks and you for what you did for me so I could find my forever family. Love, Gracie
PS. Gracie has found a spot in our hearts and that of our family. Thanks so much |
Jack aka (Elf) and Julie
LilyWe wanted to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Lily has grown by leaps and bounds! She was neutered in September, and it didn't slow her down a bit. She has been a pure joy and I thank you again for giving us the opportunity to have her! We love her to death!!! Hope you enjoy the picture!

Hi,
I just wanted to update you on Mya, whom I adopted from Dogworks Ohio about four months ago. She is happy, healthy and growing more brave every day. While we've had some set backs - including patio umbrellas and ceiling fans, both proving very frightening to Mya - she is doing so well and is a pleasure to have in my life!
Today was her first day at a local dog daycare. She wasn't initially excited about me leaving her there on her own, but adjusted quickly and started making new friends (Mya is in the middle with the purple collar).
She's a wonderful dog. Thank you so much for working with me to adopt her!

MOLLY
Here's a picture of my Molly and I would love for you to share our story. She's my protector and best friend, but it wasn't done over night. I was told it would take a year before I really knew her personality and it is true. We must give a rescue time to adjust to the new life. Thank you for placing Molly with me. Sharon M |
Lola and her new family.
She's an angel.... Thanks again!
Aussie aka Lennie and Maxine
Aussie (Lennie) is doing great with his sister Maxine (also adopted from Dogworks) and brothers Baxter and Monty. He loves being outside, car rides (with the top down), playing with his brothers, being pet, and sleeping on the bed. Maxine is also doing great too! She loves being brushed and eating ice cream!!
Abigail
Just thought I'd send a couple pics of Abigail. She's doing great! I'm just amazed how far she has progressed since the first day! She is playing, (although Lola is still not quite sure about how to play yet!), and roaming the yard and responding to commands. She isn't attached to my hip anymore is actually relaxing!!!! So thankful for you and your organization! Julie
Lena aka (Birch)
Lena is doing great. She's grown a lot but is still small. She's a great dog! She's gentle with our son, loves to cuddle, and loves to play. She loves to play fetch and tug of war and likes to wrestle with the cat. She wants to be in your lap and if you aren't paying attention she will paw at you until she get what she wants. We are wondering if maybe she isn't greyhound too. She's very fast and has really long legs. We couldn't ask for a better dog.
Bugs aka (Sam)
Hello everyone, we adopted Sam last December (his name is bugs now) and he has brought so much happiness to our house!! Just wanted to tell you all thank you for what you do!
He still jumps when he's excited and we come home from work to some sort of torn up item everyday but we love him so much we can't even be mad!! He has been trained to our invisible fence since day 1 (thanks to his first foster mom!!) and sleeps with my husband and I every night. He's a good boy (ok not very trained but he's our good boy)!! Thanks again everyone!!!

Whiskey
Hello! Just wanted to give you an update on Whiskey! He is doing great and is learning basic commands like Sit, stay, and down. We are trying to master heel and shake at the moment. He is a really good puppy and does not need a leash if we are out in the backyard. He loves to chase his Frisbee and his tennis balls around the yard. Whisky really wants our cat Charlie to play with him but Charlie is not interested in all but they are getting used to each other. He is going to be a really great dog as he gets older and keeps learning. Thank you for all that you do!

Carly
Carly is an angel. She has made us so much more happier. She is the one who wakes up my daughter in the morning with her kisses. Carly is very gentle with my daughter. She loves going for walks and gets super excited when she sees the leash and literally stands up on her two feet:) Thanks Dogworks, especially Kathie for taking care of her and letting us adopt her. We are truly blessed to have Carly in our family.
Keeva (FKA "Malie")
Keeva came home to us just over a year ago, and we are still so in love with her smooshy-face. She loves to swim in her pool, destroy all the fuzzy toys, and take naps wherever she can. She has also gained 30 pounds in the last year, filling out her American bulldog chest! She is no longer the timid girl we met at Petco!
Brandy
I love this puppy. She is doing great! I am still working on her to help her to overcome her being so shy, but she is trying too. She has not hidden under anything here. She loves other animals including my cat. They chase each other, and equally enjoy it! She plays with my daughter's girls and dogs, I think they are toys to her. She is still shy of new people. She weighs 19 lbs. & is still losing baby teeth. She took a road trip to our cabin (4 hours away) and didn't get car sick and the change of hours didn't bother her either. Here are a few pics for you....thanks again for placing her with us.
Abby (FKA "Quinn")
This is Abby (Quinn) who we adopted from DogWorks in January 2011. She is now 6 and such a blessing to our family. She loves taking walks, runs, barking at the birds, playing in the snow, playing with her human brothers and human dad and cuddling with her human mom. She likes other dogs as long as they aren't staying overnight at her home.
Reader
I have owed you an update on our wonderful dog for quite awhile now. He is quite the charmer! We so love him, even when is is "such a hound." His brother Toby and he get along and play (well, mostly Reader drags Toby over the carpet when the are tugging), and, boy, does he whine and carry on when Toby has a chew or toy that he wants. Pitiful! . . . Anyhow, he is working out well. . . . I can't tell you how much Reader is loved.
Tyson
I wanted to take a moment to thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to adopt Tyson. . . . He is by far the best dog we have ever had. We adopted him in October after we lost our 13 year old golden retriever, who had a cancerous tumor rupture in his spleen. . . . We have never had a rescue dog, and we still cannot believe or even come to understand why someone would give this beautiful dog up to a shelter. . . . If only he could talk, I am sure he has a story. Tyson is a very gentle, calm, loving soul, and we are just so delighted to have him. Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt Tyson. He really made our home complete!
Zoe (FKA "Marsha")
It was a year ago yesterday that we brought this sweet girl home with us. Zoe loves to go for walks, run thru the woods, swim in the lake in summer and she really loves to play in the snow. She'll even fetch snowballs! She's definitely got a lot of energy, but she also loves to sleep and snuggle with blankets! Thank you, Dogworks, for letting us be her "furever" family.
Max
"Just sending some pictures I took today while playing in the snow with Max and my parent's dog, Thunder. Max loves snow! He gets so excited and jumps in it and eats it. . . . It's been just over a year since I adopted him and I love remembering the day."
Daisy
Daisy [the yellow Lab] has been a wonderful addition to our family. She's very loving with us, our daughter and our granddaughter. She loves to play and especially loves spending time with her new dog "cousins." I attached a photo of her and her cousin Vinny playing/cuddling this past weekend. Thank you for all your work in helping us welcome Daisy to our home.
Sadie (FKA "Winnie")
Winnie (now Sadie) is doing wonderful. She settled in after a couple of days and we love her dearly. We are working with her daily to help her adjust to her new family and she is doing amazingly well. Her favorite activity is taking walks and playing in the snow when it is warm enough. . . . She still has an obsession with squirrels but has learned we are not going to let her chase or catch one no matter how much she begs. :) Thank you for taking such great care of her, we appreciate all you did for her and are blessed to have her as part of our family.
Stella (FKA "Izzy")
"She is doing very well and making us the happiest we've been. It took a couple of weeks for her to come out of her shell but now she is running around like she owns the place. . . . She has been perfect!"

Franklin (FKA "Frankie")
I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on the dog we adopted in March of 2014. Franklin is doing quite well, and we could not imagine a better dog. When we first got him, he could barely jump onto our bed to come and snuggle with us. He can now go jogging with us for up to two miles, and has grown into a strong young dog. We are moving him, and us, down to Atlanta, Georgia, and wanted to give you guys a big thanks for giving him to us. We love him to death!

Pepper (FKA "Jovie")
Just wanted to update you on our “new addition”! She is such a sweet little girl and a great addition to our home! Thank you & your organization for placing her into our home!
She is getting more confident in her surroundings AND herself every day it seems! She still has her “shy” moments, but they are getting less and less frequent. She loves to play with Neil on the floor, so they have their “bonding time” daily. . . . One issue we are still working on is her fear of a hairbrush. Initially, as soon as she saw one, she would run as far away as she could get. I’ve started brushing our cat on the family room floor each evening when the family is all in that room. Initially, she would run away. Now she stays about 3 feet away from the cat . . . and WATCHES as I brush him. Just 3 days ago she actually came up to me on the floor after I’d finished with the cat, and she allowed me to gently use the brush on the top of her head for about five strokes! . . . It was a monumental step for her to allow me to brush her that once, so we’re encouraged with this progress.
Pepper loves our cat, Deckster, who is 10 years old. Each night, she grooms him, by licking his face and head only. He tolerates her grooming him for quite awhile. Once his head gets VERY WET, he decides it’s enough and sits on the top of his cat tree . . . and cleans her slobber off! He sleeps UNDER our bed during the daytime, and frequently Pepper will go lay on TOP of the bed (since she’s too big to get underneath it) to keep him company, we think.
Neil has an oversized recliner chair, and Pepper just loves to snuggles with him most evenings while they watch TV, and I sit and work on the current cross-stitch project. Sometimes the cat joins Neil & Pepper on the chair, too.
I hit a tennis ball with a racket . . . every morning. She loves chasing it, but frequently doesn’t always return it. . . . She also loves running around our huge barn in the back. She runs so fast and stretches out so long that she is just like 'grace in motion.' She definitely has the border collie in her when I see her running circles around us! . . .
We take her for an hour’s (or more) walk/run each late afternoon, usually at the marina 2 miles east of our house. It is closed for the winter season, but since we keep our boat there, we have an access tag to open the gate. There is no one there, and she just runs herself all over the place. For variety, we also take her to Maumee Bay State Park, which is 2 miles WEST of our house! Since there are also no other people there this time of the year (until spring/summer arrives), this is also wonderful for Pepper to run around to her heart’s delight. We don’t know what we’re going to do when spring/summer weather arrives and people actually invade Pepper’s stomping grounds!

Elvis Costello (FKA "Elliot)
December 2014: "So happy to report that Elvis Costello (formerly Elliot) is fitting in almost too perfectly. He's great with the kids, a giant snuggler, and even his dog brother Dexter Morgan is allowing couch cuddles. We're beyond thrilled with the new addition to our family."
Lulu (FKA "Betsy")
I wanted to share a couple of pics of Lulu. . . . She loves to play with our other beagle Ruby. Thank you so much. She is a goofball and fits right in with my other doofus. She is so fun to watch play and is a lover.
Samantha
Hello all,
I just wanted to let you know how our dog Samantha is doing. She’s wonderful of course! . . . We adopted her from Dogworks in May of 2010. Little was known about her background except that she was found in Ohio Amish Country and was thought to have been a puppy mill mom. She has multiple deep scars on her face. She was terrified of most everything really and had been bounced around a few homes before coming to us. With patience and a lot of love, she is now able to reveal her true personality instead of constant fear. She’s doing great and is really very funny! She really likes to hear herself talk/bark. She definitely had some severe challenges from her past, but she worked through them and is now relaxed, comfortable, and very happy. We absolutely love her! We’re amazed by her progress and cannot believe that she was once the sad, scared dog that we met in the Ann Arbor PetCo 4 years ago. . . . [The Dogworks volunteers] brought her from Toledo to meet us and I often think of them and wonder if they think about Sam. . . . Thank you for providing a loving place for our Sam until she got to us. . . . Maybe some of your volunteers will remember her and smile to see how much she’s transitioned. Best wishes to you all and the animals you help!

Toby (Alex)
Toby is doing great. At the time of adoption you thought he was most likely a German Wire Haired Pointer or a GWP mix. Recently, I came across a breed called a Pudlepointer and Toby seems to most resemble this breed. I asked a few PP breeders and they agreed.
Doc and Lady
Lady and Doc --- last of a litter of Redtick coonhound pups we took into rescue last year .... these 2 were reunited after living in separate foster homes then being adopted by a Pittsburgh, PA area couple.....this married couple are THRILLED and love the playfulness of these two.
They're doing great! They like to get up early and "watch over" the house from an outdoor upper balcony as you can see in the attached pics.

11/10/13 Update:
We are all doing great! Had Doc to the vet last week for his update on his shots and he wowed the clinic!
Lady has taken to me and Doc seems to take to Karen. We are so happy with the both of them.

12/1 - Just a quick update on Doc and Daisy Yes she now goes by Daisy. Since we had Duke and Duchess before Daisy seemed to fit better with Doc. She adapted to it very well and quickly.
We started basic training yesterday and they did great! Karen and I are the ones that need to work on it better.
Got them to control their barking at all of the squirrels but still want them to alert us of any people to a point. Have to work them several times a day on basic commands and walking on a slack leash. Come, stay and a few other ones need some work but they are getting the hang of it. The trainer we are working with is from Toledo! She is very patient, gentle and knowledgeable. I'll provide more updates as we progress.

3/14 Been awhile since an update on Doc and Daisy. These pics were from 2 weeks ago during a snow storm. We were watching a movie and the kids seemed to be into it. The second pic must have been at a scary point in the movie!
We are doing great. We all have cabin fever and are ready for Spring. Ready to hit the trails with Doc and Daisy. We only had them out a few times before winter set in. Yes, Red Ticks are stubborn but with a strong commitment and a lot of TLC it's all working out great.
All our best!

Allisun

I wanted to give you an update of how things are going with Allisun. She is PERFECT! She is my little baby. She is completely house trained, loves to go on bye-bye rides to take my husband to and from work. She is great with children. She sleeps under the covers in our bed, curled up against me. She barks when someone knocks at the door, but if she senses it is someone I am familiar with, she easily hushes. It took her a couple weeks to not feel as though she had to follow me from room to room, but she is now comfortable for me to even go run an errand or two, although my husband says she sits atop the couch looking out the window for my car :) She officially has her license and we had a tag engraved with all her information. We are due soon for a frontline update and would like to get her nails trimmed.
She is a perfect fit for us, and I cannot imagine my life without her. I thank you so very much for choosing us and for all the effort and care you put into fostering her. I will keep you updated every now and again and will send some photos.
Again, one super happy dog lover here,
Tammy H. ( Allisun's mommy) :)

Percy

Well the first 24hrs couldn't have went any better! Not one mess or a single problem. Anthony absolutely loves him and took him for a car ride and it seems like Percy likes hanging out and following Anthony around the house. I brought him in room to sleep last night and he just laid down on the floor next to Marly and that's where they both stayed til morning.
Thank you again very much.
Thank you again very much.
Sadie
Sadie is now an officially registered therapy dog with Therapy Dogs Incorporated. I've had her 2.5 years now adopted through Dogworks of Ohio. She has been our own personal therapy dog...me going through my divorce and my son going through a shooting at his school (where three classmates were murdered and three more injured). She is such a blessing and loves visiting people. I am a Marine Corps veteran, so I am hoping to take her to the VA Hospital (hospice wing) here in Cleveland, Ohio.♥
Travis / Eliot
I just wanted to send a quick note with an update on Travis! He is now called Eliot Ness and has been absolutely wonderful! He makes me so happy and I think that I make him equally as happy; he is my shadow. Eliot's disposition is so enjoyable and we have a lot of fun. And boy is he spoiled! We are currently living with my parents until the school year starts again and Eliot and my parents' boston terrier have quickly become the best of friends. Eliot and I were away for a week and while we were gone I know the boston terrier really missed his pal; they were so excited to see each other after the week. Eliot has not had one accident since I have adopted him and we have been working on different commands like stay and come. I want to thank the foster family who kept him because Eliot is such a great dog and the family must have really had an impression on his behavior.
Eliot enjoys waking me up bright and early so that we can get a long walk in before I leave for work. I haven't had to wake up to an alarm since I got him! I work just a mile from home so every day on my lunch break we get to be outside together. We are also working on running long distance, which he really seems to enjoy. He loves my nieces and nephew and plays very well with them and they just adore Eliot. We went to stay at a friend's apartment one weekend and she said she was a little nervous about bringing such a young dog to her place but after the visit was over, my friend just kept saying how great Eliot is and how impressed she was with his behavior.
When I took Eliot to his first vet visit he weighed in at 22 lbs.; I weighed him the other day and he was right around 30lbs. He has grown a few inches taller and is a bit broader; I think that is the lab in him. Our vet also thinks he may be part Whippet, which explains his love for running and his skinny, long body and face.
Eliot has even gone to visit my residents at the Assisted Living that I work at and loves the attention. After seeing how well he does with the elderly, I have decided that in the next couple months, when he is a little older, that we are going to enroll in classes to become certified as a therapy dog and handler.
Thank you so much for doing what you do and for giving me the opportunity to adopt such a loving, caring, playful dog. Eliot has already filled my last three months with so much happiness and my family and friends thoroughly enjoy his presence. I couldn't imagine a better fit.
God Bless you and your mission!
Laura and Eliot
Diego

Diego is doing great. Seems to be mellowing out and is fitting in good. This is a picture of what he does while we are gone......gets our shoes and scatters them all over. He does not chew on them. He just looks at us like what did I do!
Lucy / Lacey
Thought you might like to know how perfectly Lucy/Lacey has embraced our home. I introduced her to the e-collar after a month on the long line, and she was perfect with it in no time, rarely needing me even to touch the beep. The result is a dog thrilled to be doing unimpeded what she's been bred to do--e.g., day before yesterday, she caught her first pesky squirrel. I love driving home watching her nose start to drink the air and her tail wag as we get close. She shows in so many ways that she loves it here-- very much worth the trip to get her, even if it had been further!
Thank you for the work you do to save so many wonderful animals in need.

Natasha

I adopted Natasha... who was renamed Camilla (we wanted all flower names for our pups!). Just wanted to thank you for letting us adopt her! She's fitting in well with the family! She loves our two children and she loves to play with our other dog, her sister, Lily! She's very cute to walk... she likes to attack her own leash! She's a pretty laid-back dog compared to our Border Collie mix (who is severely energetic!)... she likes to just lay around, but enjoys our walks and she LOVES water! Imagine my surprise when I was filling up the kiddie pool and walked back outside to turn the water spout off to find Cami soaking wet and wading through the baby pool! The kids just love her to pieces! Both my husband and I are smitten by her! She does however chew, but we're working on that with her and she is getting better. She'll be starting a puppy training class this month at PetSmart. She's completely potty-trained now, with just 4 accidents in our house since we've had her. I think good role modeling on Lily's part attributed to that! I did want you to make note that in her paperwork it said
she had worms, but it was resolved, however, we had her tested at our vet and she definitely still had worms. I'm not sure what foster home she was in, but I think the other dogs should probably be checked! She's being treated. Just wanted to touch base with you and let you know she's doing fantastic. She's only gotten a little bigger, maybe grew an inch. She is such a sweetheart... we're honored to have her as our pet!

Laney
Laney is a wonderful dog! She is a sweetheart & is fitting in very well with our family. I would like us to work with a trainer. Do you have anyone you could recommend? She is very smart and she's doing great with most commands except "come". Overall, everything is going very well and I would like to take it to the next level. I'm sending you pictures of how she spends her time after our walks, (story time and nap time).
Thank you so much for rescuing her!
Thank you so much for rescuing her!
Sammy - Arrow
He is doing well in his new country home!
Smokey

Smokey has become a great addition to our family. He is still very attached to me, but over time has relaxed a bit and also spends time with my husband. He does not really spend much time with only our daughter right now, but that may also change with time. He will play with her when either I or my husband also play. He has become used to our schedule and is doing well. We will be heading to our boat on the weekends very soon, so he’ll have a new wrench to get used to in our schedule when he travels with us there, but I think he’ll adjust to that change well, too.
Diego
Diego received his treats yesterday and has enjoyed a few of them already!! He is doing much better and it is great that he has adapted to the fence. He pretty much knows his bounds and plays confidently in the yard now. Here are some pictures of him playing.
Lacey
Lacey has done wonderfully adapting to her new home! Living in an apartment building, I was worried about house training, but she picked up the "potty routine" quickly. She is quite the cuddler and loves nothing more than to be curled up on my lap. Well, playing with one of her new doggie friends, Ollie is pretty high on the list too!
Her older brother Huck occasionally a little grumpy, but I think he secretly likes her and doesn't want to admit it. Typical older brother syndrome! He is learning how to play her as he had never had that experience, so adding Lacey to the mix has been good for him too!
I am so glad that Lacey has become part of my family! The picture of Lacey in bed happened when I woke up one morning, got out of bed, turned around and this little head poked out of the covers. I didn't even know she was there in the first place!

Lily
We adopted Lily just over a month ago. She is so full of love and puppy energy! When we started looking for a dog we wanted not only a companion but a running buddy. We have found that in our pup. Lily has been starting off with low mileage (1-4 miles daily walk or run), and once she learns to heel a little bit better we'll be taking her out for longer runs.
Lily is very smart and has been easily trained (for the most part). We are in the process of learning heel, place, down, and to not jump (our hardest one yet). She has completely conquered sit - Lily sits at the crosswalks before we cross the street, before she's let outside, and to receive her food she must sit for 20 seconds before she can dig in. She quietly stalks all of the squirrels that dare to enter our backyard, and I know that if we were hunters she would make the perfect hunting dog.
Her favorite pastime is to crawl out of her own bed at 4 a.m. and wake us up with lots of kisses. She never barks (except when she's playing with her cousin, a nine month old Yorkie), but she certainly is vocal. Lily talks to us all the time.
And we wouldn't trade it for anything. Thank you so much for helping us select the perfect family member. She brings us so much joy.
Sincerely,
Patti & Eric

Bella - Mona
Bella is doing fantastic…definitely a bundle of energy, which is one reason I love the breed. We have been wanting to get either a German Shorthair or Wirehair for some time now and I can't tell you how happy we are that we found her. She is attached to my hip already. I think I had read she was a ball fetcher and she has lived up to that so far. We are going to have many years of memories with her as I can already tell. I can't tell you how happy we are we chose to go the rescue route. I will keep in contact with Heidi. What your organization is doing is an incredible task and I thank you for saving her and placing her with us.
DaisyMae

Thought you'd like to see a pic of Daisy at work guarding the house from one of her fav. places perched on the landing. The pic is in the attachement
She got a new toy yesterday and it is her most favorite thing. she wont let anyone near it as she runs away with it in her mouth when she see you coming. It is a ball with a rope through it - two of her most favorite toys in one OH May! I think/hope it will take the place of her pervious most favorite thing to do which has been stealing our pillows off of our beds and de-stuffing them. Apparently she feels those pillows are getting too close to us and therefor a threat to our lives. "Those things they must be destroyed to protect the herd. Grumble Grumble those evil things."
Over all she is doing really good and fits right in with the family. I would like to get some chickens this spring and am questioning if it would be a good idea with her herding tendencies. On the positive side she has been really good about not chasing the cats. But I am still debating about the chickens.

Louise / Jill
Well it's hard to believe that over three weeks have passed since we adopted Louise! It actually seems like we've always had her. You wouldn't recognize her...she is putting on a little weight. We have to keep an eye on her as she likes to sneak into Velma's food. They are becoming good sisters. They do fight but it is usually play fighting with only the occasional nose getting out of joint. Louise is learning how to play tug of war. We are working on fetching. She gets the toy but won't bring it back.
I am attaching a couple of pictures of our two girls. They are such sweethearts! Thank you again for selecting us to be Louise's new home. Last night as we were watching the dog show, Louise suddenly noticed a dog on the tv. I quickly got a picture. If I would have been a little bit faster you could have seen her sitting up on her back legs like she was begging. It was so cute. The picture is a little dark but you can still see her.
Thanks again for everything!

Memphis
Hello! I've been meaning to write for some time to tell you how well Memphis is doing. He's been an absolute joy and a constant companion to Milla. They both join me at work everyday as well. The attached photo was taken at my moms house in Lincoln, Nebraska. They are wonderful travelers. Thank you again for making the trip to Cleveland so we could meet him.
Clancy / Rocky

Well we have had Rocky three weeks now and we believe he has the potential to be a wonderful family pet. We have had him to the vet and he is healthy and he now has a dog license. On the plus side he is affectionate, sleeps through the night in his crate, and loves to play with his toys.
That's not to say however, that there aren't some challanges ahead. He wants to be in charge. He jumps up on us and is stubborn when we try to correct him, especially with Cathy. We are also working on getting him to stop "play bite". We plan to enroll him in training classes at the Sylvania Vet in the beginning of January.
We are confident with time and training those issues will be resolved. Thank you for rescuing him.
Sincerely,
Bob & Cathy

Murphy
It's been a week and we love him more everyday! He is doing great. He obviously made a trip to the groomers so his cool hair is gone for the moment. And since he isn't allowed on the couch (this rule is often overlooked;) he brought the couch to him. He loves his morning and night time walks. Everyone that comes in contact with Murphy just adores him. He is going to have pictures taken with Santa today! Thanks for giving us the Murph Man he is the perfect addition to our family.
The Deatons
P.S. The groomers think he is a wheaten terrier mix?

Homer
Just a little note to tell you on this week of Thanksgiving - We are so thankful that you selected us over three year ago to be Homer's parents. He is such an angel. He has turned out to be quite tall, 32" at the shoulder, but still maintains his slim figure at 150 pounds. He is so handsome. We take him for daily walks and I would say 5 out of 7 days we are stopped and told by people how handsome, gorgeous, beautiful, awesome, what a good boy he is, and the list goes on. He is a great traveler. We have taken him to Maine and Colorado, plus we take him down to our camp in southern Ohio at least twice a month. He is a very loveable, likeable, sweet natured, healthy, happy boy.
Again, thank you so much for Homer.

Lacy

Just wanted to let you know Lacy has adjusted great to our home and family. She hasn't jumped over our fence, but she has crawled under it. Maybe that's how she got out of your yard. Anyhow, I've since fixed the fence and she seems to stay put in the yard. Thanks again for rescuing her from the shelter, she has been a great addition to our family and is probably the sweetest dog I've ever met.
Thanks again, Eric
Thanks again, Eric
Shadow
We have had Shadow now for almost a week. It was a little tense at times with the introduction to our 3 cats, but it is slowly getting better. Two out of the three cats have warmed up to her, but our black cat still likes to hiss at her. Shadow is such a joy to have around the house. She loves to play with her toys & also loves to cuddle with us at the end of the day. Still working on leash manners, but is getting better. She listens very well when we are working with her. She has had no accidents in the house or in her crate. Attached are some pictures. Will keep you updated as the weeks go by. Thanks for letting us adopt her!

Angel - Gabby

I wanted to drop you a note about our newest addition to our family, Gabby. You knew her as Angel, but Gabby seemed to fit her a little better. I have enclosed a picture to show you how beautiful she is.
Gabby has adjusted quite well at our house. She has picked up on the electric fence beautifully, and has a nice big yard to run around in. My husband said, "Her crate will be in the basement". Well now it's got it's own bedroom upstairs. He said, "She won't sleep in our bed". Well, now she takes up most of it. Her toys were seeing better days, so we made a trip to the store and filled her toy basket with Kongs. We are getting our family Holiday picture taken on Sunday.
Gabby is exactly what we needed to help mend the hole that the loss of our other dog, Sadie, had made. Thank you so much for saving her, and in turn helping my husband and I find some laughter again.
God Bless you and your organization. Without you, many of these dogs wouldn't have a chance.
Thank you again for picking my Gabby!
Thank you,

Ashton Update
Over a year ago Dogworks saved "Ashton" from being euthanized at a rural dog pound......shelter was leery of even touching this supposed skinny weimaraner mix youngster.. After arriving on the transport van to Toledo, we were asked if we wanted a pair of gloves to get him out of the van....Ash had hair loss, a few superficial wounds and a damaged long tail. Gray colored, he didn't look like a weimaraner to us....After accepting him (no we didn't wear gloves) and getting him to Holly Farms Animal Care in Toledo, it was found Ash was born with genetic defects.....Most likely a pure bred Doberman P = without hair. Called "color dilute alopecia"..he cannot grow Black Colored fur. Treating his tail, clearing his superficial wounds and getting him into better health -- Jim (hubby) discovered that Ash may have a vision problem...Ash ran right into him at a full speed run (ouch!). Back to Holly Farms -- suggestion: a doggy ophthalmologist visiting Toledo monthly from Ann Arbor. ......FOUND: another genetic defect --- Ash is blind in his right eye and slowly losing vision in his left. Diagnosis "Progressive retinal atrophy".....no cure... One year in rescue = Dogworks finally found an angel to adopt Ashton.
Just wanted to update you on Ashton.
He graduated yesterday from school. He is a quick study. He picked up on all the commands real well.
He is up to 6.5 hours alone without an accident. He is doing so well.
We toke him to an opthamologist and he said he has 15-20% of his vision left. He gave us some hope-there is a vitamin that won't restore his sight but could preserve the little sight he has left. We are excited that there is any hope.
He is a real joy and we can never thank you enough for saving him. Attached are pictures of Heidi and Ashton sharing the couch and Ashton at a picnic hogging a chair.
We hope things are going well for you. Thank you for your big heart and all that you do for those in need. You guys are saints in my book.

Willow-Molly

Molly is doing very well. She has bonded with Rex and they have been sleeping together on the same bed since the 2nd nite. She is well mannered, eats just fine and loves our cats. Thanks again for choosing us to be her family, she will be loved and VERY spolied!
Cyrus
Just over a year ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to adopt Cyrus, a Treeing Walker Coonhound and the sweetest little pup (okay, dog) ever. I won't lie, at the beginning it wasn't easy getting Cyrus to warm up to me. He came from a rough background and he wasn't very trusting of me, or any other person for that matter. He was scared of everything, including his food and water bowls, and I thought he would never come around. I am happy to report that I was very wrong. Not only has he learned to love (at least I like to think) and trust me, but he is warming up to new people every day, and he even plays with other dogs at the dog park! He has been an absolute joy to have, and he has such a big personality. I am so lucky to have him in my life. Thanks! Melissa
Red -now Jack
We adopted our pup Jack from your organization in March 2012, and I wanted to give you an update! Jack is fitting in great with our family. He's a little ham and SO full of energy! Although he's still a little curious about the cat, he's learning to leave here alone. He graduated from training classes late September--he's such a smart boy! We've had no problems training him; he's mastered the basics and gives high fives! Walks just might be his favorite part of the day, and he gives us endless kisses. We are so fortunate to own such a wonderful dog. Thank you so much for making him a part of our lives. I've attached a photo of him at 4 months (when we got him) and a couple of him now at 9 months, and goodness has he GROWN! I wish you and your organization the best of luck in the future.
Best wishes,
Veronica L and Nate P

Buddy - Brutus
Hi I wanted to let you know how Buddy or Brutus, what we now call him is doing. He has been so good we love him to death! He has gained 30 lbs since we got him, hes a big boy but a big baby. He had some skin issues called puppy mites but he has been to the vet and has gotten them taken care of and his hair is growing back in that spot on his side! He has adjusted well and gets along great with my other dog Cole. I'm so glad I adopted him, he's my baby and I take him everywhere! So dont worry he's doing great!
Callie

Callie's doing great! she met all the neighbors and dogs and seems
to be adjusting well.
Chris
to be adjusting well.

Bear - aka berry, bearie and barry
Just wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying this guy. he is such a mellow sweet and loving dog. We are completely in love with him. He travels well, minds well and has only a little separation anxiety. I am trying the radio to keep him from barking when I leave him. He really is a wonderful dog. Thank you so much for making this possible.

Dixie / Lola
Dixie is doing great. We just finished a 1.5 mile walk with all 3 dogs and all of them or sleeping right now. Dixie had a good nights rest sleeping next to our bed last night. She enjoyed running with both of our dogs today. She also enjoys chewing on rawhide bones. She has hid a couple in the back yard already.
Dixie is such a good dog. All 3 dogs for the 1st day are getting along really well.
Regards, Fred

Poncho

Just wanted you to know that Poncho has made himself right at home and is a welcome addition to our home. He has gotten along with our dog very well and they are on the way to becoming very good playmates. There has been no arguments or disagreements between the two. They eat together very well and share all the toys also. Poncho did take a little time to get use to the cats, but they have now, accepted him also. Once again we just wanted to say thank you for bringing Poncho into our home and hearts. Mike
Update 01/2013: Poncho did very well coming into our family. He associated with our young dog nicely and they have become best of friends. They are constantly playing their favorite game of tug of war. We would just like to thank everyone at Dogworks for providing such a fabulous and well mannered dog for our family.

Hallie - Hailey
Nikki shared these pics of Hallie which is Hailey now. Hailey girl has got it good for sure!!
Sammi

I adopted Sammi last January and just wanted you to know that she is doing great. One of the best dogs I have ever had. We go to the park everyday. She goes to day care once a week and she loves it. A girl who works there and is studying to become a vet tech and is interested in dog breeds thought Sammi is a Miniture Austrailan Shepherd/Spaniel mix. Sammi spends the whole time she is there herding all the other dogs, most of them twice or three times her size.

Manning - Now Marino

I’ve been meaning to email for awhile, but things have been busy for us lately. I know you asked to get some pictures of Manning, so I thought I’d send some along. We changed his name to Marino after we picked him up (although I’m still not sure he knows his name!) He’s been doing great with us and we absolutely love him! He’s such a friendly dog and all of our friends love him! We’ve taken him to Cleveland a handful of times to see family, and he does great in the car. He loves having the big backyard to run around in. He’s also been to the dog park a few times, and loves playing with the other dogs there!
Thanks again for choosing us, we couldn’t be happier puppy parents!! Nick & Nicole

Maggie

I took Maggie to the groomer yesterday, and she got a nice summer cut. She continues to do well here, and seems genuinely happy. She does get timid occasionally , but I’m still learning about her and her likes and dislikes. I have two camping trips planned soon, so hopefully she will enjoy camping and possibly swimming.
Heidi - Now Sasha

Hi! Just an update on Heidi. We changed her name to Sasha. She is doing verywell! we enjoyed a great weekend with her. She is very smart and a very good girl. She loves her new yard and her new couch as you can see.
We cannot thank you enough for letting us adopt her. She is a great addition to our family. We will be making a donation to DogworksOhio and also adding them to our Kroger plus card.
Thank you again! Sarah & Jack…Sasha too!!!

He’s doing great never has to be locked up he does great when were not home. He loves attention and loves all his toys he loves playing tug-o-war. I’m so happy I had the opportunity to adopt it was a great decision! I truly couldn’t be happier.
Morgan - Ranger

Just to let you know, Morgan, who now goes by “Ranger” is doing great. She just finished her advanced level lessons at Petsmart where she is consistently the best in the class. She now weighs 56lbs and is in perfect health. She goes to the leash free dog park almost every day and get more love and attention than any dog I have ever heard of. I work 24 hours shift 2 days a week I work, she gets dropped off at my mothers house where she plays all day with my mom’s dog Riley, a chocolate lab. They get along famously. Samantha picks her up after work where Ranger always greets her with hugs and kisses. Ranger just wanted to thank you for putting us together. Samantha and myself also want to thank you for such a perfect puppy, she is a wonderful family member.
Naomi - Izzy

Just wanted to drop you a long overdue note to thank you for our wonderful newest family member – Izzy (aka Naomi).
She is just a wonderful dog. We have all settled into a routine, and she is happy as a clam. The first weekend we had her, our daughter Katy woke up with a terrible cold. Izzy was a trooper all weekend as we tried to nurse Katy back to health. Although it was Easter weekend and then Katy’s Spring break, we had to really keep close to the house while Katy got better. This actually worked out perfectly for Izzy. She loved having almost everyone home all week with her.
I was a bit worried how she would react to us going back to work and school, but she is just fine. We’re home by 2:30 to play with her everyday. She loves the backyard and all the neighbor dogs – all her new friends! She especially loves playing with her human sister.
We started puppy school last week, and she is doing great. We have a bit of work on jumping up on people. She feels it is very important to kiss everyone. She really cracks me up b/c everyday by 8 PM (like clockwork) she gets into “her chair” that is now covered with her pink blankie.
Izzy is just a delightful dog. She charmed everyone at her new vet, and is just a lover! Thank you for everything. We have told everyone who will listen what a wonderful group you guys are.
Warm Regards,
Kristen

So CUTE! They named her Bloom.

Jetta - Willow

Just wanted to update you on (Jetta) Willow’s progress. She already knows her new name.
We are so happy to have Willow as a part of our family. She is so sweet. My husband is especially excited because Willow has been his little buddy. Our Gracie has always been partial to me and he is thrilled at the thought that she may stick close to him.
Week One: Gracie and Willow have had their little “tiffs” but we’re just taking it slow. Willow has been eating a little slow. She lays on our sofa and I will set a handful of food by her and she gobbles it down. She didn’t go potty for over a day and that had us worried but she made up for it thereafter.
Week Two:Willow has met almost all of the neighborhood dogs and they enjoy each other’s company. Willow & Gracie are getting along well although they have only played together once in the yard. We’re hoping that will change soon. We love how Willow greets us when we come home after being away (even when it’s only a few minutes). She is eating well out of a bowl now. We know what Rebecca meant by “she likes her morning walks” she will whine until she gets to go for a walk.
Thanks again for rescuing her and allowing us to be her forever family. We will treasure her always.

Ellie

We renamed her Ellie … Ellie Rastelli.
She is a wonderful dog. It took her about 6 weeks, but she finally sleeps with us in bed.
She knows when it is the weekend, as she can’t wait for Guido to talk her on her morning walk. He also takes her on evening walks too.
We bought a Ford Escape so that she can be with us when we run errands. She goes everywhere with us. We just love having her as a part of our family.
Update August 2012
Hi Ladies,
Hope that your summer is going well. I wanted to give you both an update on Ellie. First off, WE LOVE HER. I can't tell you how often we remind her of that …. daily. And she loves us back. She sleeps with us and is always by our side when we're lounging around the house.
Ellie is a very smart dog, and she learns fast. Ellie knows all of her commands, however, I'm still working on the "Come" command when we're outside. Sometimes her nose interferes with her hearing. LOL
She goes everywhere with us …. Weather permitting. I've attached three photos. The first photo Ellie was taken in the car. This is how she typically rides …. Laying her head on the back seat that we've folded down.
Thank you again.

7/13 Update

It's been three years since Guido and I were blessed with Ellie aka Patsy.
She is the sweetest dog. She is a real snuggler, and we love it.
She walks very well on the leash, and listens to her heal command. She often falls asleep in Guido's arms.
We take her with us everywhere we go, weather permitting. We're so glad to have in our lives.
We take her to a doggie day-care center once a week. This give her an opportunity to socialize with other dogs.
We occasionally do downtown to the Detroit Riverwalk on Saturday or Sunday mornings, And walk along the river. We pack her water and lunch, and a poop bag. ; )
Thank you.

Bedford Press & Dogworks make a perfect match.

It was love at first sight”. A soft spoken quiet widower, Don saw Ella’s picture in the Bedford Press, he was downright smitten by her. Without a computer to contact Dogworks Rescue, he called Bedford Press publisher immediately. He said he wanted Ella!
Ella, a flat coated retriever, was in rescue care at Dogworks Sporting Dog Rescue. When Don lost his best canine friend of 16 years, he was left with a big hole in his home and heart. Then he saw Ella’s picture, with the same warm brown eyes, the same silky coat, the same sweet temperament. He contacted Kris Sulinski, Dogworks President, saying to her, “It has to be Ella.”
Ella was brought to a local pet store to meet and greet possible adopters and Don was the first one there to meet her. He was convinced that she was “the one.” He filled out an application and within two weeks, Ella was at home in Don’s house and had carved out a niche in his life as well.
He was pleased with the Bedford Press for facilitating his request. “Working with Dogworks was really good. They brought her to my house and talked to me for some time. They wanted to be sure we were comfortable together. I took her then and there.”
Fast friends from the start, Don said Ella fit right in from the start. The two play with his grandkids, “hang out,” and walk their neighborhood for the regular “Dog Show,” as Don calls it. She feels happy here, and “That’s what counts.” And Don looks pretty happy, too.
